I was just asked what the difference is between a forum and a list (discussion group). A discussion group rolls on day by day as people discuss all aspects of a subject at the same time. There is no real way to sort, index and organize the information. There is also no way for a beginner to get the back story or learn from the group members' posts on their own. A forum allows specific topics to be posted and discussed. People won't be discussing everything all the time. The forum will be designed to build a sort of institutional memory or maybe wiki-like index of definitions, terms, people, places and events. Something charting the evolution of LPFM radio. A forum will never be able to be dynamic like a discussion list in terms of people responding and adding to discussion immediately and quickly, but it is another way to organize and share!
